Spotlight on Gage McCoy: Navigating Careers and Innovations in the Energy Sector

At Qube Technologies, our team is our greatest asset. This month, we shine the spotlight on Gage McCoy, a Business Development Representative whose journey through the energy sector is as dynamic and inspiring as the innovations he champions.

From UT Tyler to Qube: A Journey of Growth and Discovery

Gage’s path began at the University of Texas at Tyler, where he nurtured a strong desire to make a mark in the energy industry. His first significant step was at John Crane Production Solutions, working with beam pump systems. This role took him across various locations, landing him in Midland, Texas, for what was supposed to be a brief assignment. Thirteen years later, Midland has become a cornerstone of his personal and professional life.

After gaining valuable experience at John Crane, Gage transitioned to Occidental Petroleum (Oxy), where he worked in the Midland Basin for six years. His quest for new challenges led him to a leading OFS company, where he focused on emissions management. It was here that Gage’s interest in environmental technologies took root, setting the stage for his next big move.

Finding a Home at Qube Technologies

Gage’s journey to Qube Technologies began with a simple curiosity. As he encountered Qube’s innovative solutions at various customer facilities, he became increasingly intrigued. After reaching out to Alex (CEO) at Qube, a series of conversations over six months culminated in Gage joining the team. He was drawn to Qube’s mission of filling crucial gaps in the market, particularly in the realm of environmental regulations and leak detection.

Midland: A Community Beyond Work

For Gage, Midland is more than just a place of employment; it is a community. He eloquently describes it as a place where “you come here for work but stay here for the people.” His wife’s career at ConocoPhillips and their children’s active participation in local schools and sports have deeply rooted the McCoy family in Midland’s vibrant community life.

Championing Innovations at Qube

At Qube, Gage finds immense satisfaction in helping customers navigate the complexities of environmental regulations.  His role involves bridging the gap between traditional oil and gas operations and innovative leak detection technologies.

Among the projects that Gage is particularly proud of is one in the renewable natural gas space, specifically an agricultural application involving swine operations. This project highlighted Qube’s versatility and highlighted Gage’s ability to apply technology beyond conventional oil and gas scenarios.

Gage also reflects on the challenges he faced early in his career. His initial discomfort and lack of confidence in sales drove him to gain hands-on operational experience, which made him a more effective and confident professional. He emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and embracing discomfort as a catalyst for growth.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals

For those looking to enter the energy or environmental sectors, Gage’s advice is simple: be curious, ask questions, and understand customer needs. He stresses the importance of honesty and consistency in sales, encouraging new professionals to “do what you say and say what you do.”

Life Beyond the Office

Outside of work, Gage enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly at a deer lease with his family. His hobbies also include playing golf, a sport he recently picked up again. Despite the occasional frustration, he finds it a refreshing way to unwind. His family life, with his daughter’s horse riding and his son’s various sports, keeps him busy and grounded.

Gage McCoy’s story is one of continuous growth, from his early days at UT Tyler to his impactful role at Qube Technologies. His journey underscores the importance of adaptability, lifelong learning, and community—values that resonate deeply at Qube. As Gage continues to drive innovations and build relationships, we are proud to have him as a vital part of our team.
